Slight post-operative bleeding is normal – here is how to stop it.
01
Stay upright. Sit down calmly and keep your head elevated – even when lying down. Do not lie down with your head flat.
02
Apply pressure. Bite down firmly on a sterile compress or a clean, rolled-up cloth handkerchief for 30 minutes. Do not use cotton wool or paper tissues.
03
Leave the wound alone. Do not rinse, do not suck, and do not check with your tongue. Avoid physical exertion, hot drinks, coffee, alcohol, and nicotine.
04
Cool from the outside. Place a cool, damp cloth or a cloth-wrapped cold pack on the cheek – always with breaks.
Often harmless after procedures – cooling helps.
01
Cool, cool, cool. Wrap a cold pack or cold compresses in a cloth and apply alternately: cool for about 10 minutes, then a 10-minute break. Never apply ice directly to the skin.
02
Keep head elevated. Sleep with your upper body elevated, even at night – this helps the swelling subside faster.
03
Avoid heat. No sun, no sauna, no sports, no hot food or drinks – heat increases swelling.
04
Observe. Swelling after a procedure often peaks on the second or third day and then subsides.
